Acupuncture in Manhattan
Whether you are looking for relief from pain or a chronic health problem, or just to improve your body's normal function, acupuncture may be the solution you've been searching for.
I'm Dr. Ziki Dekel, DACM (Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine) and the main reason I was compelled to practice Chinese Medicine and continue to be a champion of it is that we are often able to help people who have found no relief elsewhere.
Many of the people who walk through my door are what we call "last resort patients." They've tried everything else, or their doctor has told them "nothing is wrong" with them, or they're just sick and tired of being over-medicated. In a sense, they've lost hope in ever feeling better, or having a normal life.
The effects of a health condition can be devastating. I've seen patients who could no longer work, due to back pain; patients not wanting to continue their cancer treatment, due to the side effects; women suffering with infertility who wanted to start a family; and the list goes on and on. Health problems ruin lives. And without proper treatment, they usually only get worse.
To Get Better, It Takes a Different Approach
My approach, which is different from any other doctor you've ever seen, is to consider everything that ails you and make connections. For example, the patient with chronic constipation and tension headaches never made the connection between these two conditions. But I treat them as one and the same and I expect relief from both conditions to occur simultaneously.
This is when a patient begins to understand the effectiveness of acupuncture and chinese medicine: they come in with one complaint, but suddenly get help with two or three other things that are going on. It never crossed their mind that there was any interplay between these different conditions until they see how treating them as part of the same problem gives them the relief they've been searching for.
As a result, I have been able to help conditions including:
Pain Relief - back pain, sciatica, sports injuries, headaches, migraines, cancer pain.
Women's Health - infertility, prenatal, post-partum, morning sickness
Respiratory - allergies, COPD, rhinitis, asthma
Vascular and Neuro - hypertension, post-stroke rehabilitation
Digestive - constipation, diarrhea, Irritable Bowel Syndrome; nausea and vomiting
Orthopedic Disorders
Auto-immune disorders: Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, arthritis
Alcohol and Drug Dependency
Acne
Diabetes
Focus on Making the Correct Diagnosis
The real key to restoring health is in making the correct diagnosis, as any medical doctor would agree. However, western medicine often fails to diagnose the patient correctly, and that is where any chance of recovery is lost.
Western medicine does not consider the body as a whole. It tends to treat every condition and every body part as if it were a separate thing, not affected by any other part of the body, and not affecting any other part of the body. That's not how the body works.
Lacking this information and understanding of the body as an integrated system, western medicine often fails to find and correct the actual Cause of the health problem (which may be a lack of balance between body systems) and instead merely treats the symptoms of the ailing body part, rather than restoring health and balance.
Working Together with Your Medical Doctor
One of the main qualifications I have is a Doctoral level degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, whereas most acupuncturists have a Masters degree. The Doctoral degree puts a greater emphasis on collaborating with Western medicine and on synthesizing and participating in clinical research. As a result of this degree I have a better understanding of the mechanisms of disease from a biomedical perspective than many of my colleagues. Most people come in with some sort of diagnosis from an MD and it makes a difference if I, as a Doctor of Chinese Medicine, am able to interpret that diagnosis and also know how to find the latest research on that condition.
Take Action to Get Better Now
With health conditions, time wasted is only an opportunity for a health condition to further deteriorate to the point that it cannot be reversed. This is unnecessary when effective solutions are available. If you have failed to receive help in the past, don't let that stop you from achieving the level of health you desire, and deserve. Make a commitment to your health and give us a call today.
